Built with Blocks by Suzanne Pretty

Divided LandscapeBuilt with Blocks by Suzanne Pretty ran June 21 through September 9, 2014. Suzanne has used the block as a design element and icon in her works of tapestry, multi-media and sculptures.

In the tapestry the Forest of Blocks isolated blocks of trees and clouds lay strewn across the gravel landscape as if by children at play. In the tapestry Divided Landscape blocks of forest images are stacked in pile on gravel into an island disconnected from a life supporting forest. I have divided the image of Mountain of Pieces into eight separate blocks building a mountain stacked up in the center of the gallery. On the various blocks I have superimposed images. Other images translated into blocks are Roadside Construction, Bog and Fracturing Wolf.

The blocks in this current exhibit are part of her piece through the Divided Landscape. The exhibit Fore Art! traveled to three venues Artstream, in Rochester, NH, the Library Art Center in Newport, NH and the Narrow Gallery in Fall River, MA where it was renamed Amusements.
